BMW dealerships began carrying the X5 models in 1999. This mid-size crossover SUV is a 5-door, front engine, and four-wheel drive layout. Although referred to as a crossover SUV, BMW prefers to call this car a SAV or Sports Activity Vehicle, since it has the ability to uphold even the roughest roads. Comparatively the X3 model began being manufactured in 2003 and has a longitudinally mounted layout, a front engine, and is also a four-wheel drive vehicle. So what is the difference between the two? Simply put the X3 is a compact crossover SUV and the X5 is a mid-size crossover SAV.

 A look at the X3

The BMW X3 xDrive28i (the standard X3 model) has a six-cylinder engine that has a light weight composite block of magnesium alloy, a valvetrain by Valvetronic and Double VANOS system, and efficiency-boosting technology like Brake-Energy Regeneration. All of this resulting in 240 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque from 3.0 liters and a smooth and responsive BMW quality ride.
Phoenix BMW X3 drivers will also enjoy that it comes equipped with EfficentDynamics a new intelligent technology that reduces fuel consumption and emissions while boosting performance. The estimated fuel consumption is 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Electric power steering, tires with reduced roll resistance and precise aerodynamic design, and Twin Scroll turbocharger, allow the X3 to extract more power and less fuel.

The X3 is also functional with a trunk that features a 12-volt power outlet and 40/20/40 rear seat folds that increase storage space. Restraining hooks are also available for anchoring bikes or other items. The X3 also comes complete with xDrive, an all-wheel drive system that recognizes different road surfaces through sensors in the DSC chassis control system and reacts within milliseconds. This means the wheels will always run at a precise amount of power and drivers can expect stability and traction on any road surface.

The X5

The slightly more powerful but similar BMW X5 has a 3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 300-hp 6-cylinder engine with TwinPower Turbo technology, Valvetronic, piezo direct fuel injection, and Double-VANOS variable valve timing. The X5 also has xDrive and Hill Descent Control. HDC allows drivers to smoothly and easily control descent down a steep, downhill gradient.

Phoenix BMW X5 drivers know that it draws attention everywhere it goes.  But BMW improved some exterior features for the 2013 model for design and safety. The new 2013 model’s exterior accentuates its sportiness with powerful contours and long wheelbase. For improved cooling the side panel was modified and the side air intakes were enlarged. The taillights have been redesigned to an L-shape and now have LED lights for more visibility. The X5 body shell has added special reinforcements in the front, rear, and sides to protect the driver and the passenger effectively. The overall design allows the X5 to have razor-sharp precision and amazing agility. In an impact situation, the BMW X5 body shell proves to be unyielding. Special reinforcements in the front, rear and sides of the body protect the driver and passengers effectively. The highly rigid body shell also serves to ensure the BMW X5 handles with razor-sharp precision and breathtaking agility.

Both BMW options would be a great addition to anyone looking for adventure and functionality in one car. Chapman BMW is expecting to receive the 2013 models soon so come by for a test drive!

2012 bmw 7 series

The 2012 BMW 7 Series offers a multitude of the latest technological innovations, an extremely spacious and comfortable interior, and a quick and engaging ride.

The 7 Series is designed to produce high acceleration rates while still retaining an engaging ride that can maneuver even the tightest corners. The base 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 engine races from zero to sixty mph in just 5.8 seconds and boasts 315 horsepower. For those who need even more speed, there is the 4.4-liter, 400 horsepower V8 engine or the 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 which produces an unmatched 535 horsepower and a 4.5 second acceleration rate.

“While the speed of the BMW 7 Series is quite impressive, the interior might be the true star of this 2012 model,” said Chapman BMW General Sales Manager Rich Yang.

BMW Phoenix drivers will be impressed with leather and wood accents, heated front and rears seats and BMW’s iDrive system which puts all necessary controls within easy reach for the driver. The interior of the 2012 7 Series is truly luxurious as well as convenient. Available features like massaging rear seats, 14-way adjustable front seats, and power rear and side sunshades give 7-series Phoenix passengers the highest level of comfort.

“BMW customers have numerous options to create their own luxury haven. Another new feature includes a head-up display on the windshield that would project the car’s speed, list navigation directions and other information so the driver can keep their eyes on the road,” said Yang.

In addition to the luxurious interior, the 2012 BMW 7 Series offers an impressive list of available technologies. Parking sensors, a rearview camera, keyless ignition, a navigation system, iPod/USB port, a sunroof, HD radio, and 12-speaker surround sound all come standard on the 2012 7 Series.
