Sixth Consecutive Year for Sales Record

People continue to love the BMW lineup, as evidenced by a worldwide sales increase in 2016 of 5.3 percent over the previous year to set a company record. “As our model lineup has expanded, so have our sales,” according to BMW board member Dr. Ian Robertson. “Despite headwinds in some markets, our police of balanced global sales has paid off, as we increased our worldwide sales month by month.” Dr. Robertson noted a steady increase in the delivery of electric and hybrid vehicles, which bodes well for the future of transportation. See why BMW continues to be a popular premium brand by taking a trip to Chapman BMW.

BMW X Family Leads the Charge

SUVs are popular in America and all across the globe, so it’s no real surprise that one out of every three BMWs sold in 2016 was from the X lineup. The model increased sales by 22.3 percent over 2015, delivering almost 650,000 vehicles worldwide. The 2-Series (24.8 percent) and 7-Series (69.2 percent) also saw significant sales jumps over the previous year. BMW executives expect the new 5-Series to have a similar sales bump this year. Look for it to come to Chapman BMW this February.

Electrified Vehicles Top 60,000 in Sales

No one expected the world to quickly switch from the comfortable familiarity of gasoline engines to the future of electrified vehicles, but BMW did well in 2016. The company has a total of seven different hybrid or electric vehicles, accounting for 62,000 sales last calendar year. “The addition of new models has clearly driven our sales of these innovative vehicles and we were delighted to see the 100,000th electrified BMW hit the road in November,” Dr. Robertson said. He noted that the markets that have a strong charging infrastructure did the best in electrified vehicle sales.

South Carolina Plant Has Strong Year

Coinciding with the strong sales year of the X model SUVs, the South Carolina X vehicle assembly plant also had a record year. The plant recorded its largest annual production, manufacturing 411,171 X models. Last year was a very successful year for Plant Spartanburg,” BMW manufacturing CEO Knudt Flor said. “Our X models continue to be extremely popular worldwide, and I’m proud of the commitment shown by our team of dedicated associates to deliver premium quality vehicles for our customers.” The X lineup is a collection of sophisticated utility vehicles that are not only functional, but are a heck of a lot of fun to drive. Modern Metals Cut Weight

Thanks to an innovative combination of steel, magnesium and aluminum, the all-new BMW 5-Series has shed up to 137 pounds, depending on the model. You may not be able to see the slimming effects when it shows up at the Chapman BMW showroom in early February, but you will be able to notice an increase in performance and efficiency. As it prepares the vehicles for the North American International Auto Show, BMW announced the pricing for the revamped sedan. The 530i starts at just $51,200 with the xDrive all-wheel drive option kicking that up a bit to $53,500. The BMW 540i and 504i xDrive will start at $56,450 and $58,750, respectively.

7th Generation ‘Business Sedan’ Offers Mature Styling

“The new BMW 5-Series will make a mature, confidently stylish and dynamic impression at every opportunity,” according to BMW head of design Karim Habib. “The formal and precise design combines presence, aesthetic appeal and functionality in equal measure.” The new 5-Series is a bit longer, wider and taller than last year’s model, creating a slightly more statuesque presence. By moving the cockpit back just a bit, the eye is drawn to the gently sloping roofline that slopes toward the rear end. “For the first time, the new BMW 5-Series sedan brings together two traditional BMW design elements which are normally separate from each other,” Habib continued. “The swage line turns up as it heads rearward, moving from shadow to light and sweeping up the Hofmeister kink in its path rather than continuing into the rear. This upwards motion lends the car a forward-surging character, and the expressive, swooping surface imbues it with an undeniable muscularity.”

Choose M Sport Package for Greater Handling

The new BMW 5-Series will have the M Sport package available as an option when it hits Chapman BMW in early February. This includes larger air intakes in the front apron, a rear apron diffuser and two rectangular tailpipes. The lowered M Sport suspension package creates a lower center of gravity for improve handling and responsiveness. The sporty interior adds a leather steering wheel with the M Sport logo, aluminum pedal covers, special floor mats and the option of black leather seats with blue piping. The front sport seats come with a 16-way power adjustment including bolsters that keep you in place as you power through corners. Seats that offer massage and heat are also available, with eight different programs to relax muscles on those long cross-country drives.
