The BMW 5-Series has long been known as the “business sedan” because of its popularity with executives. Enter the 2018 BMW 530e iPerformance plug-in hybrid, the perfect mix of sophistication, driving dynamics and environmental consciousness that’s perfect for the modern business or family person. Now available for purchase or lease at Chapman BMW, the 530e iPerformance is powered by a 180-horsepower 2.0L inline four-cylinder gas engine that works in concert with an 111 horse electric motor. The net result is 248 horsepower and 310 thrilling pound-feet of torque that’s more than enough to pass big trucks on your weekend mountain run.
Smooth Transition Between Electric and Gas
If you’re not watching the mesmerizing energy indicator on the BMW’s touchscreen display, it’s likely you’ll never notice when the 530e switches between electric and gasoline power. You can go about 30 miles on electric power alone while reaching speeds close to 90 mph. Step on the accelerator and the gas motor will kick into action on the way to a top track speed of 146 mph. You can dial in the performance to your liking by utilizing the Driving Dynamics Control. Choose from “Eco Pro” for optimal efficiency or “Sport” for greater thrills. There are also settings for “Comfort” and “Normal.” The BMW 530e iPerformance is rated at 70 MPGe by the EPA.
Graphic Cluster Brings Out Inner Competitor
For those of you who take getting the highest possible fuel efficiency as a personal challenge, this BMW 5-Series hybrid offers a little graphic help. The gauge cluster offers an arrow pointing at a foot, telling you to get your size 12 off the accelerator if you want to achieve better fuel efficiency. After every drive, you get a rating of one to five stars based on how well you managed the vehicle’s energy consumption. It’s a great help to boost mileage, but also easily ignored if that’s not your cup of tea.
BMW Offers Plenty of Driving Assistance
Features like Dynamic Stability Control, electric power steering and brake fade compensation are just a few of the technological breakthroughs the BMW 5-Series offers to help you maintain control. A front and rear head protection system, BMW’s active protection system that not only pre-tensions seatbelts, but closes the windows and moonroof, is a lifesaver in the event of a crash. The BMW Warranty program includes an 8-year/80,000-mile coverage on the hybrid battery, and a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty on all major components. The warranty includes 4 years of unlimited roadside assistance. Test drive the new BMW 530e iPerformance today when you visit Chapman BMW in Chandler.
Great Beginning for Electrified Strategy
The BMW Group had a very solid first few months of the year for 2017, buoyed by excellent progress in implementing its strategy of increasing electrified vehicle sales. BMW deliveries of hybrid and electric vehicles doubled over the previous year for the first quarter of 2017, reaching nearly 20,000 deliveries. Aside from the increased sales, BMW also announced it will build a new technology center near its Dingolfing, Germany plant to concentrate on connectivity, electrification and connectivity. You can see the fruit of the company’s commitment to technology and alternative energy by viewing the inventory at Chapman BMW.
Focus on Sustainable Growth
“The first quarter results lay a very sound foundation for us to achieve our ambitious targets for 2017,” said Nicolas Peter, BMW board member. “Given that the BMW Group is embarking on the biggest model offensive in its corporate history, we expect start-up and marketing costs regarding new models to increase over the course of the year. We will also incur high upfront expenditure in connection with electronic mobility and autonomous driving. Short-term gain is not the decisive factor for us: we remain focused on sustainable, profitable growth.”
BMW i3 Pioneered Electric Mobility
BMW was one of the pioneers in electrified vehicles when it unveiled the i3 commuter four years ago. Now with the Mini Cooper plug-in hybrid coming this summer, BMW will have nine different electrified models in its vast lineup. Look for a BMW i8 roadster in 2018 and an all electric Mini Cooper in 2019. The X3 will offer a battery-powered version in 2020. The futuristic BMW iNEXT will be on the road in 2021, offering a larger vehicle in a crossover design that features extreme levels of automation.
More Than Half-million Units Sold
The net result of all this good news is that global BMW sales topped 500,000 for the first quarter of 2017. That’s the most sales ever for BMW in the opening quarter of a year. Sales of the remodeled 7-Series jumped by more than 50 percent over the first quarter of 2016, topping out at nearly 16,000 units delivered. The X1, X3 and X5 also registered significant growth. Sales were up all across the globe, with the greatest increase in Asia (9.2 percent) and Europe (4.2 percent). Sales in the Americas were up 2 percent from the previous year. Along with the BMW brand you can test drive and purchase at Chapman BMW, the company also owns the Mini Cooper brand as well as the ultra premium Rolls-Royce.
Bringing together a community of automobile experts and professionals from the industry across the globe, the World Car Awards are an annual rite that is the culmination of months of evaluation and research. It’s no small deal that the innovative BMW i3 was named the World Urban Car in this category’s initial award for 2017. “We are delighted and honored that the BMW i3 has been recognized as the World Urban Car,” said BMW Americas chief Ludwig Willisch. “This award highlights BMW Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility through BMW’s first all-electric vehicle made primarily of carbon fiber.” See why the efficiency, technology and maneuverability of the BMW i3 make it the perfect commuter vehicle for the modern driver when you take a test drive at Chapman BMW.
2017 BMW i3 Offers Greater Range
Now with 50 percent more range than with previous models, the BMW i3 provides plenty of distance between charges while also delivering the familiar BMW performance. This all-electric vehicle goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 7 seconds, making it the sportiest electric vehicle in its segment. With a new home charging system that makes bringing your power back up to optimal levels a breeze, it’s never been easier to enjoy driving an alternative energy vehicle.
BMW i Started With a Vision
With an eye toward reimagining the future of mobility on our planet, the BMW i group started with a vision. Engineers and designers had to rethink what it means to drive an electric vehicle, and see how they could fit that into a philosophy that only makes Ultimate Driving Machines. The all-electric i3 and i8 plug-in hybrid sports car fit that philosophy to a tee, delivering power, innovation, design and ultimate efficiency. Materials are handpicked not only for beauty and strength, but also sustainability. One example is the open-pore eucalyptus wood that makes up some of the trim in the BMW i3.
Green Means Go
With 114 miles of range and more than 28,000 public charging stations in the U.S., the BMW i3 is a great choice for your urban commuter or taking the occasional road trip. Depending on your tax situation, up to $7,500 in federal tax credits are still available, making it one of the most affordable BMWs on the planet. If saving the planet while enjoying the drive of your life are both on your bucket list, take a test drive today at Chapman BMW.
